Interdisciplinary Leadership Training in Overweight Prevention and Intervention for Children with Special Health Care Needs
Target Audience:
Nurses, dietitians/nutritionists, exercise physiologists, physical therapists,
occupational therapists, psychologists, teachers, case managers, health education specialists, social workers and school
food service professionals are encouraged to register. Educational levels
that are required span from introductory to advanced for participation.
Course Description:
This self-paced learning opportunity enables participants to learn from experts in the field of overweight prevention and intervention among children with special health care needs. It consists of lectures that incorporate video, images, and text; a video-based family panel made up of parents of children with special health care needs; and the case study analysis of a family who is facing the challenge of overweight issues with a child with special health care needs. The development of this independent study opportunity was funded by an MCHB Grant awarded to the Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities to provide this online continuing education course.
Course Objectives:
By completing workshop activities participants will:
Increase their capabilities in screening, assessment, intervention, follow-up, and prevention of overweight.
Increase their leadership skills in overweight prevention and intervention.
Be able to identify and use community resources to develop a system of networking for overweight prevention and intervention.
Strengthen their understanding of the roles of all members of the interdisciplinary team involved in overweight prevention and intervention.

The workshop will take approximately 10 hours to complete. As you participate in the workshop you will be viewing text, images, and video clips on-screen. You will also be linking to Adobe Acrobat PDF documents and web sites. Links to PDF documents and web sites open in a new browser window. It is a self-paced course, you can start or stop at any time , and resume later.

Continuing Education Credits/Units/Hours will only be granted once the participant has completed all sections, pre-test, post-test, case study, and evaluations.
