Statistics Distance Education Program
Graduate Level Courses Available Online
The UTK Department of Statistics, Operations, and Management Science offers graduate-level courses via web conferencing. Many of these courses lead to a graduate certificate in Applied Statistical Strategies, which is available entirely online. The software application, Centra, is used to deliver interactive classes via the Internet. Students may log onto the Web from their home or office, participate in a real-time class, share statistical software, communicate with fellow students or view a playback of the class.
Online classes employ two-way audio and encourage student participation. Students follow course material as the teacher lectures from and annotated Power Point slides. All courses emphasize practical application of personal computer-based software, featuring hands-on experience with JMP and other statistical software packages (e.g., SAS and SPSS). All distance courses are taught by Department of Statistics faculty and content is identical to on-campus classes. Admission to the Graduate School is required.
