Computer Requirements for IEI Courses

Attending the Internet eLearning Institute requires that you have access to certain hardware and software. The following is a list of the those requirements.

System Hardware:
• A minimum of 64 MB of RAM.
• A CD-ROM drive or DVD drive capable of reading CD/R & CD/RW disks.
• 1 Gb of available (a.k.a. "free") hard disk storage is recommended.
• Modem Speed: 56 kbps or better recommended.
System Software:
• Acceptable operating systems are Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP.
• Mime-compliant email capable of sending and receiving attachments as large as 5 megabytes.
• Web Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5 or higher, or Netscape Communicator 4.7 or higher, javascript and cookie enabled.
• Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 4 or higher.
• When specific software is required for a particular course it will be identified in the course syllabus.

IEI Login Information

What do I (the student) need to do to activate my account?
• Get your NetID:
  • If you already have a UT NetID, you can click the link to Online@UT and log in using your UT password (the one you use for all other Online@UT courses).
  • Otherwise, click on "what is my NetID" to have your NetID emailed to you.
• Your NetID comes with a 1-use password that follows this format: first 2 letters of your birth month, last 2 digits in your birth year, last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (ex. ju749929 would be the password for someone with the birthday of June 1974 and a SSN ending in 9929).
• To activate your Blackboard account, you will need to go the Change Password page and follow the instructions. You get to pick your password, so make a special note of this password, we CANNOT retrieve or change this password for you.
• Once you've changed your password on the Change Password page, go to Online@UT and bookmark/add to favorites or make a note of the new web address. Log in with your NetID and newly created password and make sure you can navigate to your course(s).

• Administrative Support (Enrollment, completing courses, signing up for courses, etc)
• Course Support (Questions about assignments, content, requirements, etc)
  • Contact your instructor via the Staff Information page for each course site.
